I’m A Sixteen Year Old Girl And Lacto-ovo Vegetarian. Any Vitamin Recommendations?

By admin

Hello, I’ve been a lacto-ovo vegetarian for three months now. I don’t take vitamins currently, but know I need to. Does anyone know of a vitamin acceptable for lacto-ovo Vegetarians and something that would help me specificially for my needs? I’m a 16-year-old girl, am still growing, and I’m pretty sure I’m anemic. Even before I went veg, I hardly ate meat so I’m sure my iron deficiency is still there. If anyone knows of a good brand that I could pick up at a local store, please let me know. Local stores; Wal Mart, Safeway, Rite Aid, and Walgreens. I live in a small town and those are all the different stores within an hour of me. Thanks :)

  1. Toe the line says:

Finding iron in food is not difficult to do at all. Since your 16, I would think that your parents would have insurance and could have your family doctor to refer you to a good nutritionist/dietitian for help with setting up a diet for you that will meat all your nutritional needs. For you to have those type of problems even before you were a vegetarian shows that your diet wasn’t the best and you really do need some help in learning the correct foods and portions to eat.
So, till you get to that point or if it isn’t an option, I would suggest that taking a good multi vitamin might be in order. The side of the bottle will tell you if it is vegetarian/Vegan. You can find these at your local grocery store usually where they keep the health foods or your local health food store. There is also the option of going to one of the more expensive ‘health food specialty stores’ such as “Whole Foods” as an example. Buying vitamins from online is another option and very easy to do, “Amazon” as an example.

Centrum offers a complete multivitamin A-Z That’s about $12 to $22 depending on the bottle and can be bought at Walgreens, Wal-Mart, or Rite Aid. Just find which one has the cheapest offer. My mom buys them from Wal-Mart I’m pretty sure. The vitamin capsules contain every vitamin, as advertised, A-Z so you get a complete multi-vitamin that you can take everyday to keep yourself healthy with 100MG of Iron to help your anemia aswell.

  3. Ahmanda says:

Buy nutritonal yeast, and use it in your food. It taste like cheese would but its all natrual made from plants. I’m not sure where its sold, but maybe safeway has it, the one thats by my place sells it, but I know that it just depends on where you live of who sells it.

  4. Sweetie, if you think your anemic you need to see your doctor and make sure. Lacto-ovo Vegetarians don’t need any vitamins since dairy and eggs will cover everything that you used to get from meat.

eat tofu it has lots of protein but is for Vegetarians. may taste weird its chinese food but its good. or take those vitamin pills e.g. omega 3 oil pellettes

    omega 3-6-9s, calcium, and steak
someone said something about centrum, but using multi-vitamins in place of taking in those vitamins from food would be a mistake. Just eat a wide array of fruits and vegetables, trying to get a good balance of colors. There are many ways to eat beans, as they are whole, or in spreads like hummus. Eat lots of nuts and avocados. Not together necessarily, but each is high in fats, and if you don’t eat meat, you need to make up for it. Eat plenty of grains too. High fiber isn’t just for old fogies. Everyone needs to get their poop on.
Its hard to beat good old fashioned meat though. Fish are healthy and some are really tasty. I love those fishes ’cause they’re so delicious!
