A New Vegetarian, I Need Help?

It’s my third day as a lacto-vegetarian and I really don’t know what to eat, it’s hard. Can you guys help me out with foods that I can buy at walmart? I’ve been eating vegetables, fruits and nuts, but as for real meals I have no clue on what to cook. What are some vegetarian brands of food I can buy, and what foods can I cook? Oh and since vegetarians need more protein, vitamins, protein etc. should I buy a type of dietary supplement?

You need to get a couple good vegetarian cook books. Maybe try your library first, then the book store.
BTW: I’m just starting too. Here’s a good website http://www.vegetarianteen.com/

I am a flexitarian, so I understand your situation! Ideas for carbs: Smashed fried beans in olive or canola oil, brown rice either steamed or fried, whole wheat spaghetti, smoothies with berries and yoghurt, stir fried veggies, popcorn, oatmeal topped with fruits, honey or cane juice when you need something sweet, banana nut cakes, brownies, whole wheat pancakes, fried or baked potatoes (avoid trans fat). When you need protein, meatless patties, or soy products buy Boca, Freshfarms, Odwalla, Kashi, or companies that haven’t sold out to big corporations. I think only kashi contains some milk products, but read the labels. Congratulations on choosing to be a vegetarian and good luck!!

Good Luck! There is plenty of food out there especially if you enjoy cooking, or if not maybe you will learn to enjoy it. I would definitely invest in a cook book, “How to Cook Everything Vegetarian” is a fantastic one with tons of options! As for the protein you will find it in a lot of places especially whole grains, you can buy whole wheat flour in bulk and use it o make pancakes, tortillas, muffins, bread etc. For dinner I just made a wheat flat bread with ricotta cheese, and sauteed spinach with garlic and lemon. I also like to marinate my favorite veggies and grill them and mix them with some brown rice. Or try making a veggie pot pie – here is a good recipe (you can always buy a can of mixed veggies for ease as well) http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Veggie-Pot-Pie/Detail.aspx.
I would also say just start looking around recipe sites for anything that looks good, and experiment on how to make it vegetarian. Brands such as quorn, morning star, boca and yves have really tastey meat substitutes. You can make awesome sausage gravy and biscuits, lasagnas and taco’s with substitute beef grounds, etc.

I’m not sure about where to buy foods or what type of foods to buy but you should definitely look in to either buying a protein supplement or a multi-vitamin with protein because with the lack of any kind of meat or lactose its not just protein you’ll need more of.

    mmm make veggie burgers:d
add rice(ccoked),onions, breadcrumbs, green peppers, celery, and ,and any other veggie you might like:d
mix it all together and wither grill them in a skillet, fry them if you want them, or put it in the oven ( makes it dry though)
and then just top it like any other burger
    ;d

Try shopping at places other than Walmart hun’. It doesn’t give that many options. If you go to other places (Price-Chopper for instance) and just shop around some, you will find lots of stuff. READ THE LABELS though. Thats very important.
