I eat a variaty of …
I eat a variaty of food and im perfectly fine. I only take supps. when I’m really busy and dont have enough time to eat proper meals, like during exams etc. so i hate when ppl complain about not being able to go veggie for health reasons like seriously if a weakass like me can do it anyone can
LMAO!
LMAO!
Well said.
Omnis …
Well said.
Omnis think it’s all about them. They ignore the animals entirely and think vegans just want to control omnis, as if it had nothing to do with anything less superficial.
I don’t think that …
I don’t think that all vegans have this complex, but quite many do have it.
Meat eaters are not …
Meat eaters are not healthy. They are angry and have this stupid inferiority complex.
They go to veganism related videos and post generalizing comments. That’s why I am annoyed LOL
The angry vegans …
The angry vegans are a minority. Most are happy.
The superiority complex is a myth. We don’t think we’re better.
Vegans are not …
Vegans are not healthy. They are angry and have this stupid superiority complex.
Corey “So they are …
Corey “So they are forced to make a lifestyle change in what they eat due to health problems?”
I need u to study the definition of ‘compulsory’. It can be self-imposed. This is an easy concept since most of the population mechanically digest meat on a compulsory basis, without natural instinct or predator reflex, etc.
If a patient has gout, CHD, doesn’t like fish or have access to fresh fish, has dangerous chol levels or has a naturapathic Dr., etc, he may recommend limiting animal products.
So they are forced …
So they are forced to make a lifestyle change in what they eat due to health problems?
Wouldn’t a compulsive Vegan not even be a vegan at all if they weren’t eating food considered vegan?
veaelliott, some …
veaelliott, some ppl can store B12 beyond 20 yrs, while others only a couple. It only takes a little B12 occassionally (found in wild fruit, cultivated for pills too) to cover all the basis. You can feel fine & still compromise health w/nerve damage w/long-term B12 deficiency.
Most meat eaters also have low B12 today food processing/cooking destroys natural B12. Even cows are supplemented cobalt to produce B12.
The NON-RANDOMIZED …
The NON-RANDOMIZED study looked at ‘health conscious’ meat eaters compared to avg Vegetarians. There were only 6 vegans out of 8000. While Vegan Diet is generally healthier, there are compulsive vegans who don’t care about health/eat processed food & recently gave up meat for med reasons but haven’t yet restored health.
Steindorf K. 2005. Lifestyle determinants and mortality in German vegetarians and health-conscious persons: results of a 21-year follow-up. Epidemiol Biomarkers Prev 14:963-68.
Wasn’t referring to …
Wasn’t referring to meat-eaters. Moderate Vegetarians.
That’s one of many …
That’s one of many studies. Most studies show that Vegetarians and vegans live just as long as meat-eaters, if not longer.
In a German study …
In a German study comparing Vegetarians, vegans, and moderate vegetarians (who eat fish), the moderates lived longest — and vegans the shortest.
I felt fine as a …
I felt fine as a Vegan for a long time too. I only take vitamins to hedge my bets. I just want to be certain I’m getting adequate nutrients.
I agree that people who have trouble with veganism are eating too little variety or too little period.
I don’t know if I’m …
I don’t know if I’m the exception or if I’m just smart/lucky enough to be eating all the right things but I don’t do supplements- and I feel fine.Omnivores I know are taking daily multiples, vitamin B C D E K, fortified with iron and all sorts of minerals. AND they are always sick!
It’s obvious they just aren’t eating correctly not enough variety I suppose.
And I dare say most complain about irregularity- and frequently take laxatives.I don’t think they are eating the right things.
Because we’re the …
Because we’re the only animal that destroys Cobalt with chemical fertilizers. Cobalt is needed for B12 to grow. Cooking, irradiation and washing are 2 more customs that kill B12.
Everyone does it.
…
Everyone does it.
Or rather, everyone should.
We can’t possibly eat every vitamin or mineral everyday, even when some of those are stored in our bodies. You need both food and supplements; if all of our nutrients were in pill form, it would be the size of a football.
a) The “jackass …
a) The “jackass driving a Hummer” is just that, a jackass.
b) Reread the study you read. Read it VERY carefully. It doesn’t say a Vegan Diet “starves the brain”; it says B12 deficiency results in brain shrinkage.
B12 is a …
B12 is a complicated vitamin. And it’s the ONLY one not available to vegans. Everything else can be obtained from plant sources.
Ultimately, the jury is still out. Nutrition is a young science and no one really fully understands it. There’s far too much bias (in every direction) to get truly clear pictures. So, do what allows your body and conscience to thrive. For some, that means taking a supplement, others use fortified foods, others rely on nutritional yeast… do what’s right for you.
B12 comes from a …
B12 comes from a bacteria that grows in animal intestines. It can be present on or in plants if the soil has animal or human manure in it, but with modern farming and dangerous bacteria like e coli and salmonella, unwashed organic produce is not a safe source for most vegans.
All animals have …
All animals have different nutritional requirements. Other primates tend to get B12 by eating insects.
I do take …
I do take supplements. But why are we the only species that has to do this? There has to be some plant source that some animal is eating to get B-12.
It’s just something I’ve been wondering for a while.
It’s not like …
It’s not like calcium or many other nutrients. They don’t eat it; they make it. We make it, too. We just can’t absorb it from our own bodies. It’s too low in our digestive tract.
We should take supplements or eat fortified foods. That’s the best source for B12.
If the animals get …
If the animals get B-12 somewhere, can’t we get it from plant foods too? I know spirulina has B-12 but someone I was talking to tried to say “Where would you get it in nature though?” (I’m not sure what she meant though, as spirulina is not a chemical). The same girl said pumpkin seeds have B-12 but I can’t find any source that backs that up…Hmm.
