Most everyone has heard about carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), but what about RSI? Repetitive strain injury has become one of the biggest problems related to the use of your arm. In the older days it was simply called, “Writer’s Cramp,” but today it’s a much more serious issue. If you are experiencing pain and spasms in your hand, swelling, or weakness that particular area you could have contracted it. This means you are experiencing tissue damage and carpal tunnel is here. However, in today’s world it’s nice to know yoga can help.

The idea is that repeated, continuous usage of the hand and arm for long periods of time caused tissue damage, followed by swelling, pain, and weakness in the affected area. Here, carpal tunnel exercises using yoga can help. Perhaps the fact that the fact that RSI is so similar to writer’s cramp, it has also been given many names. RSI also goes by the aliases Cumulative Trauma Disorder, Occupational Overuse Syndrome, non-specific arm pain, and Work-Related Upper Arm Disorder.

Tendons in your wrist move their way up to your fingers in order to allow them to flex. When carpal tunnel comes along your median nerve becomes compress which eventually can result in CTS. However it’s often mistaken for simple arm pain that develops from work. No one really knows why it happens, but the symptoms can become intolerable and constant throughout the evening. You will find many symptoms along the way, although feeling numb, a lot of burning and even the occasional prickling feeling are common symptoms.

CTS is often a mistaken diagnosis for work-related arm pain. The reason why CTS happens is unknown. Its effects are also rather bizarre: symptoms experienced only at night and waking in the night for no apparent reason are some such effects.

Whatever the case may be, if you have carpal tunnel it is quite manageable. You can opt for surgery; get steroid injections, or wraps to help control the pain. Unfortunately this doesn’t solve the problem. That’s when you need to start taking a look at yoga. It allows you to stretch and release pressure, which is extremely important when it comes to CTS or RSI.

Although they were originally made to facilitate meditation in addition to health, today yoga is practiced mostly for its health benefits. Practitioners of yoga, or yogis are they are called, are found all over the world due o the popularity of yoga. In carpal tunnel exercises using yoga, various parts and sometimes the whole of the body is held in various positions.

So how does yoga work? In short you hold various positions for longer periods of time. What this does is allow the muscles and tendons to stretch out and experience slight amounts of strain. You will soon find yourself with massive amounts of flexibility and the rush of experiencing healthy arms when you work. However, this isn’t something you do a couple times and everything fixed. Once you’ve become healthy again, it’s important to integrate yoga into your daily routine. When you do, the prevention period will begin and you’ll enjoy the results.

Yoga has many great carpal tunnel exercises which can help to relieve the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. Yoga includes both mental and physical exercises which can develop both body and mind, which can combine to be very effective in healing the issue. However, yoga must be done properly in order to help rather than harm the body and aggravate the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. If left untreated, carpal tunnel syndrome can be very damaging.

So just keep these differences in mind if you want to make the most out of carpal tunnel exercises using yoga without hurting yourself:

Bad Yoga Practices

These are yoga exercises which can cause more harm than good. If you want to improve your condition, then avoid these.

Overdoing your yoga exercises is a common mistake. A lot of people learn that yoga can be helpful in treating carpal tunnel syndrome and cause themselves new symptoms. While yoga generally improves the body, overdoing it can cause problems if you’re trying to heal.

Avoid exercises which put a lot of weight on your wrists. This can definitely exacerbate the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. Stretching is a helpful carpal tunnel exercise, but avoid straining your wrists, since this will prolong the healing process, cause additional pain and can even lead to more damage to your wrists.

Doing yoga on your own may sound like a good idea, but there are right and wrong ways to perform these exercises and doing them on your own can lead to poor practices. Done without professional advice, you can cause permanent damage to your body.

Good Yoga Practices

Good yoga practices can prevent further injury and help to treat the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome.

When your symptoms subside, this is when your carpal tunnel exercises will be the most effective. Your yoga exercises will start to increase strength and flexibility and take some of the stress off of your damaged nerves. Another benefit of good yoga carpal tunnel exercises is that they promote good circulation, which helps you to recover more quickly. Stretch, don’t stress your wrists. Stressing and straining your wrists only makes matters worse. Stretching reduces the strain and helps the healing process along.

Supervised yoga – yoga is most effective when a professional yoga instructor is there to supervise a person’s session, as he or she knows what has to be done to maximize effect. Individuals suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome especially need professional supervision in order to avoid making mistakes during their initial stages of practicing yoga.

And there you have it. Keep these good and bad yoga practices in mind, and you will be able to do carpal tunnel exercises using yoga without fear of worsening the problem.

While healing the damage that has brought on your carpal tunnel, clearing the mind is just as important. As exercising evolves, there have been several connections to doing yoga in order to prevent and heal carpal tunnel. In fact, it will effectively build and strengthen the body like never before.

Yoga is a leader in the exercising world to help you become more flexible and stretch the muscles. This helps carpal tunnel suffers heal themselves more effectively and fight against carpal tunnel syndrome. Whether it’s reducing stress, becoming more focused throughout the day or alleviating pain, it will all be helpful.

Yoga for promoting blood flow

One of the most important functions of any form of therapy is to increase the blood flow towards the target region. This increased blood flow carries away with it the damaged parts of the nerves and muscles, while bringing a fresh supply of blood to oxygenate and heal the affected area. Carpal tunnel exercises using yoga promotes this blood flow in the affected regions, and the resulting increase in blood helps repair the damaged nerves and affected muscles. This in turn lessens the pain and helps speed up the healing process.

Healing the Pain with Yoga

There isn’t anything worse then feeling uncomfortable during the work day. Carpal tunnel is even worse, especially if your day requires constant use of your hands. Without any type of way to relieve the strain, you will end up damaging those reasons even more until surgery becomes necessary. Luckily, yoga exercises can help alleviate the issue and stimulate the specific regions. You have to remember that whether you have carpal tunnel yet or not, this will prevent any further damage. Plus, you will eliminate some of the pain while promoting healing at the same time.

Start with Reducing Stress

Anyone who has carpal tunnel, experiences stress throughout the day. If you aren’t doing any type of carpal tunnel exercises, the stress can build up and eventually take its toll. Since the mind and body are connected in many different ways, it’s important to relax both of them whenever you have time. This will give you the opportunity to cope with it a lot easier. In order to reach this point, you’ll have to keep up with your yoga exercises, but the end result is a positive one. Not to mention it’s a great way to help you enjoy the rest of your day.

Open Your Mind with Yoga

As yoga practitioners go beyond carpal tunnel exercises using yoga and regularly attend yoga sessions, the stress-reducing effects become more and more apparent. Yoga would then not only reduce stress levels that have been built up, but will help the mind become clearer and more focused, allowing the carpal tunnel syndrome sufferer to achieve a state of clarity and well-being. This state is an even more advanced state of mind does not simply reduce stress, but prepares the mind to deal with stress as it comes; effectively serving as an emotional and mental shield to environmental stressors.

One thing to understand is that there are tons of carpal tunnel exercises out there. However, when you try as many of them as possible, you’ll soon realize that yoga exercises are the way to go. Having the ability to work on all aspects of your mind and body doesn’t come along with every exercise. Hopefully when you try them out for yourself it will make more sense. For now, you’re just going to have to take our word for it if you want to prevent and heal your carpal tunnel.

Did you know there are many natural ways to prevent and even cure carpal tunnel syndrome? It may surprise you, but the pain and discomfort your hands and wrists are giving you can be worked out through some basic physical therapy techniques and hand/wrist stress relief. With this in mind, can you believe that many people choose surgery over natural alternatives?

The first thing that you are going to need to consider is what carpal tunnel syndrome really is. This is a condition that essentially results from the performance of a series of motions with your hands time and time again. You can get carpal tunnel syndrome from things like working on an assembly line, typing, knitting, sewing, or any number of other activities. Too many people will ignore the annoying pain until it is intense, and things like bad posture and no attention paid to ergonomics can worsen the condition. Before you think about moving on to surgery to fix it, consider a few things.

Do you know what is happening when you start feeling the pain that is associated with carpal tunnel syndrome? What is happening is that the median nerve in your wrist is becoming irritated and compressed. As the transverse carpal ligament tightens it closes ever tighter around the other ligaments that run parallel down your arm. These are the ligaments that give strength to your hands, when you look at surgery, you are looking at a procedure that is meant to lessen the pressure in this situation.

The surgery itself is relatively simple and is done while the patient is under a light anesthesia. The surgeon makes a small incision in the palm of your hand and then proceeds to cut the transverse carpel ligament. Sounds harsh! Well, it is! This causes and immediate lessening of pressure and pain for the patient. However, there is some recuperation time needed as the transverse carpel ligament will need time to heal and scar over. This generally leaves more room for the other ligaments and also should alleviate the pressure on the median nerve.

When you are looking at the cost of the surgery, you may be looking at a price tag between 5 thousand dollars and ten thousand dollars. It can take six weeks or longer, and with that in mind, why in the world do so many people consider it their first option? The truth is that there are risks involved with any surgery and there may be complications on the road to recovery. You will also need to worry about regaining the strength in your hands and wrists.

Before you take the step of signing up for surgery, you’ll find that there are plenty of other soothing techniques for you to try. Look at massages that you can have done that will keep the soft tissues in your hand from putting pressure on the nerve, and there are stretches that you can do as you work that will keep your ligaments from being so tight. This simple exercise can make all the difference in the world, as can maintaining good posture and making sure that you take periodic breaks from what you were doing.

Surgery is a last resort; it should not be the first thing you try, so look elsewhere for answers!

About the Author:

Did you know that nearly 15% of people who have carpal tunnel surgery may actually experience MORE painful symptoms after surgery? And that full freedom of movement is achieved in only 60% post-surgery? Even with those whose surgeries are considered successful, many symptoms of cts will return a year after the surgery.
