Stretch Mark Remover:True Or False?

By Rachel Starks

Most women who have been pregnant and given birth to a child will experience stretch marks at some point. This is caused by the rapid gain in weight and the stretching of the skin in the stomach area. People who have lost a lot of weight will also experience stretch marks as well. This has caused many people to look for the stretch mark remover that will work well for them.

Stretch marks develop on the skin for a number of different reasons, some of them being weight gain, weight loss and pregnancy. The dermis, which is the middle layer of the skin, is affected by the stretching of the skin in all the above cases and stretch marks occur in this layer. Starting as red or purple marks, stretch marks change color over time to become white or silver streaks. Stretch mark removers are a welcome solution to these marks that are likely to appear on many parts of the body including the stomach, hips, breasts, lower back and upper arms.

Using Lasers For Stretch Mark Removal

One of the best stretch mark removers is the laser. Though there is some pain and discomfort when undergoing laser therapy, laser surgery itself is quite a safe option and there are no lasting side effects. Lasers act as a most effective stretch mark remover by removing the skin that is scarred and simultaneously boosting the production of new and healthy skin cells.

Surgery

Another option for a stretch mark remover is laser therapy. Surgery is a big step and far more expensive than laser therapy, but it is an effective option. Just as with cosmetic surgery for other parts of the body or the face, the patient is put under anesthesia while the scarred skin is removed. Each affected area is similarly removed and the time taken to recover from the surgery can be up to several weeks.

Your Other Options For Removing Stretch Marks

Blue light therapy has become another option for a stretch mark remover. There are other methods that can be used as well. Microdermabrasion and chemical peels are a couple of other options for those who are seeking a way to remove their stretch marks. This is a good option for those who do not want to face the expense of surgery. There can also be some pain involved in these methods of stretch mark removal. The effectiveness of these treatments is not actually very clear as well.

Creams, Lotions and Food Choices

Many lotions, creams and other products available on the market today claim that they can act as a stretch mark remover. There is no doubt that some of them can fade stretch marks, but they cannot completely erase them. Since it is the middle layer of the skin where the stretch marks develop, it is difficult to do anything about them, unlike the first layer which is constantly renewing itself. It is wise to consider how effective these products might be before spending a fortune on them. Protein and zinc-rich food can help lighten stretch marks. Drinking enough water and avoiding alcohol and caffeinated drinks can also make the skin more elastic. Finding a stretch mark remover that works is not an easy job. Surgery and lasers are the only two options that really work, but since they are expensive, they are not the answer for everyone. Many other stretch mark remover options such as lotions might work, but are not completely effective, leaving prevention as the single best method of cure.
