Bottling The Fountain Of Youth?
ByBeing a stylist the past twelve years women often assume that I am authority on all things beauty. Being a six foot two clean cut gay male does not automatically make me an authority however, I do keep my ears open and I always pay close attention to anything that might give me the edge in my business.
Not long ago I was giving highlights to a client who had been coming to me for about 5 years. She struck up a conversation with the stylist next to me, boasting about how well her recent 54th birthday party had gone. I couldn’t believe my ears; all this time that I had been styling her hair I had always assumed she was no older than her mid forties.
I listened for a few more minutes before my curiosity got the best of me. I absolutely had to know how she kept herself looking so youthful. Face lifts and Botox immediately came to mind but I have been wrong before, and this was no exception.
With a smile I finally mustered the courage to ask. aGirl what are you doing to keep yourself looking so young?a We both chuckled as she grabbed my hand and pulled me closer to her. aDo you promise not divulge my secret?a she asked. I excitedly nodded and she pulled me even closer. aI found the fountain of youa she whispered in my ear. I let out a roaring laugh.
My client elaborated; she told me about her success in capturing her youth by using an organic skin cream rather than the lab created skin creams she used to utilize. I was skeptical, however, I wondered if there was really that big of a difference between the two types of creams.
When I arrived home that night I decided to do a little research. I found that most skincare brands, even the ones calling their products organic, contained preservatives that not only water down the effectiveness of their product, but also raise the price.
I later learned that the cream that my client told me about was made by a company that does not use any ingredients that have the potential to be harmful; that they only use ingredients that are guaranteed to be from completely organic farms. Their ingredients remain totally natural, no matter how concentrated they are, and the company also guarantees the effectiveness of their product by not adding any artificial coloring or aromas.
A major factor you will want to investigate when choosing a skin cream is whether it contains any potentially dangerous ingredients, which most brands that are not completely organic do. A 2004 study found parabens to be the most common cosmetic preservative present in significant amounts in 18 out of 20 breast cancer tumors. The next time you are shopping for skin cream keep in mind that going completely organic is more effective, healthier, and a less expensive option.
