  • Trust me. You can stay plenty healthy on a vegetarian, even a Vegan Diet. It's all about how you balance it out. Like any diet, being a vegetarian requires you to eat food from every food group (excluding meat). A meat eater can be just as unhealthy. Lack of exercise and poor eating habits can also attribute to bad health.

There's nothing in meat that other foods lack. Though it's harder to find. B12 and iron can be found in most enriched cereals, dark leafy greens and beans.

Beans, nuts, eggs and soy products also have high protein contents.

No, a vegetarian should definitely not change her diet. It is actually much more healthier than a non-vegetarian diet.

  • Is It Ok (health Wise) to Become a Vegetarian If I Am Slightly Anaemic?
If you're anaemic you should be taking iron supplements anyway, it would be fine to become vegetarian if you continue to do so, and eat a nutritious diet. But if you're worried you should speak to your doctor of course.

Yes, being vegetarian will not make you more anaemic. Look on the vegetarian societys' website for more information on nutrition if you're worried about it. Their address is http://www.vegsoc.org

One of the major things is that you need to make sure you are getting enough folate and iron. Large sources of iron come from meats but you can get small amounts from nuts and dark leaves. Read up on things about foods with folate and iron in them. These help with cell multiplication which naturally help with your baby and your iron levels decrease greatly anyway when you are pregnant. These two also help with oxygen in blood circulation.

Your doctor may have already told you all of this but I hope this helps!
Good luck with the pregnancy and I hope everything goes well!
