How do children’s multi vitamins work?

You see, for my Science Fair expirement I have to find out which Children’s Multi Vitamin [chewable] will dissolve the fastest in 30 minutes.
But, I have no idea why or how they dissolve in the first place.
Is it a good thing if one can dissolve faster than another?

First, for any medication, the faster it dissolves, the faster it can be absorbed and the faster it can go to work. Most tablets dissolve and get absorbed either in the stomach (acidic environment) or in the small intestine (slightly basic environment).

What drug manufacturers do for quality control testing is to make sure the tablets dissolve efficiently. What they do is put the tablet in an acidic solution that mimics the stomach (pH 1-3) and stir until it dissolves. Or if it’s enteric coated or designed to stay intact until the small intestine, they put it in a slightly basic solution (pH 7-8) and stir until it dissolves.

Just remember if you set up your experiment like this to crush your chewable tablets first – just like you would if you chewed them before swallowing.
