A common problem many people have experience of is hemorrhoids. Often caused by over straining of the anus, the painful symptoms can include itchiness, swelling and bleeding. Fortunately, there are many hemorrhoids treatment options available. Whilst it is difficult to determine which is best, they are all effective.

Before any other method is attempted, sufferers should relax in a nice warm tub of water. This will help soothe the pain and itchiness, whilst also calming down the inflamed area.

Also effective is the application of a cold compress or ice pack to reduce the inflamed area. This should be applied for no more than 30 minutes however.

If problems continue after these methods have been tried, one of the many hemorrhoids treatment creams can be applied. Widely available, these help provide instant relief and help control the problem.

For more severe complaints, creams with anesthetic or steroids are available. Your pharmacist should be able to advise you on the best options. It is important that any of the cream options are used for no longer than a week, to avoid the sensitive skin around the anus becoming irritated.

Ongoing complaints can also be treated directly by your doctor. One method often used is banding – where a tight elastic band is applied to the base of the hemorrhoid. This serves to disrupt the blood supply, resulting in the hemorrhoid simply dropping off. A small amount of pain will likely be experienced, though this should be minimal.

More invasive options for hemorrhoids treatment are available, should the issue recur. These can include; injections around the blood vessels of the anus to decrease the size of the hemorrhoid, infrared coagulation to burn the tissue of the hemorrhoid or, as a last resort, surgery.
